Most budget builds fail not because the parts were bad but because the plan had no second act. You buy for today, and eighteen months later every upgrade path is blocked by something you saved forty pounds on.
Spend on the platform
A motherboard and power supply with headroom are the least exciting purchases in the build and the ones that decide whether you can drop a better GPU in later without starting over. Buy the case you will not resent cleaning.
Cheap out on the right things
Aesthetics, storage tiering and the CPU cooler. You can add drives forever, and a competent tower cooler does the job of a loop for a fraction of the cost and none of the anxiety.
The three upgrades that matter
In order: more VRAM, a faster panel, and a better chair. That last one is not a joke. The component you touch for six hours a day should not be the one you bought last.
